America Couldn’t Have Handled USA vs. USA in the World Series Right Now

Dear America,

You’re welcome.

No really. I need you to sit down and acknowledge something that happened last week that you’re not properly grateful for.

Canada saved your ass during the World Series.

I know you’re still drunk on confetti and Dodger blue. I know LA is throwing parades this morning and everyone’s crying happy tears about back-to-back championships.

But let me tell you what didn’t happen.

America didn’t have to watch America beat America for the championship of America’s pastime.

And I can say this because I’m Canadian. I’ve lived in Los Angeles since 2012. I’ve raised Dodgers fans here. My son is 21 now. I introduced him to Clayton Kershaw when he was maybe eight, backstage at Jimmy Kimmel when I was promoting my book. God, I don’t even remember exactly. He was little. Now he’s not. And I’ve watched this city love this team through all of it.

So when I tell you Canada did you a favor, I’m saying it from both sides of the border.

The 2025 World Series went seven games. Game 3 went 18 innings. Far too many innings for anyone’s sanity. Game 7 went to extras. This was objectively one of the greatest World Series of all time.

And it was Los Angeles versus Toronto.

Not Los Angeles versus New York. Not West Coast versus East Coast. Not another version of America eating itself alive in front of a global audience.

Right now, America couldn’t have handled a World Series that was USA versus USA. We’ve got enough America versus America happening. What we needed was Canada.
