This morning, my neighbor Bob and his dog Mingus stopped to greet me with two monologues and a Howdy.
“I knew of a bird person. They had no cats on the property; they had birds. They fed the wild birds oatmeal, carrots, and raisins. This person didn’t even use the Gregorian calendar for their children’s birthdays.
One of the kids was born when the Cardinals returned. Another child was born when the chickadees hatched.
They knew of all the flocks and how the birds talked to each other.
They would wake up, listen to the birds, and know what clothes to wear that day, solely based off the birds conversations. The birds would talk about the sun or the rain or how cold they were.”
