The Funky Pickle brings me back to when I worked at Divine. We would close at 11, grab a few drinks at the Thirsty Turtle and then grab a slice from the Funky Pickle. Mine always had corn on it, which to this day I loathe, but I loved it from there.

It makes me feel strange when I realize that not a single one of those places is still there. Nor am I.

I love your essays. Also the manic panic Doc Martin reference took me back to my junior year. '96 was an epic time!

Had an eerily similar experience, in 1996, but no body paint, gay dance clubs or pickles were involved. It was Halloween. And one of us got in bed naked.

How come when you write it, it sounds like a story, but when i write it, it sounds like bad porn?

Like we are transported to another time. Heart breaks have their own identity I feel. Especially when the power seems unbalanced, though that is only perspective.

I too feel the need to apologize for my love of pineapple and jalapenos on pizza. Though not for my love of pork and pineapple not on pizza (tacos!), though sometimes for my new found love of pork.

I can hear that photo. Otis Redding, the absolute best. Also, so was Duckie. He got the girl in the original ending.
